Artistic collaboration, a phenomenon that has profoundly
influenced the cultural and artistic landscape throughout the centuries, finds
a contemporary manifestation in the works of Christine Selzer and Katerina
Dramitinou, known as Chris & Kat.

Potete raccontare un po' sulla vostra formazione artistica
individuale? Cosa vi ha ispirato a cominciare a creare arte?
Entrambi abbiamo ricevuto una formazione artistica: Katerina
in Grecia, Christine nel Regno Unito. Abbiamo iniziato a creare arte per un
bisogno interiore, una necessità come respirare.
Come vi siete incontrati e cosa vi ha portati a decidere di
formare un duo?
Ci siamo incontrati prima sui social media, poi nella vita
reale. Tutto è iniziato come un gioco, giocando con le immagini degli altri. Ci
siamo divertiti così tanto che a un certo punto abbiamo pensato: perché non
collaborare? In molte altre forme d'arte le persone collaborano, come nella
musica. Così abbiamo deciso di formare un duo.
Come prende vita il vostro processo di collaborazione?
Lavorate insieme nello stesso studio o remotamente?
Da remoto. Tutto viene fatto al computer utilizzando i
nostri programmi di elaborazione.
Quali obiettivi vi siete prefissati per il nuovo duo
artistico che avete formato e come immaginate che i vostri stili si evolveranno
insieme?
Il nostro obiettivo è ispirare altri artisti a collaborare.
È tutta questione di imparare a lasciar cadere l’ego per lavorare all’unisono.
Speriamo di vedere altre collaborazioni artistiche in corso. È come creare un
nuovo movimento artistico, come avveniva all'inizio del XX secolo. Per quanto
riguarda i nostri stili, non ci pensiamo: ci piace sorprenderci.
Come bilanciate le vostre voci creative individuali con la
necessità di lavorare insieme come team?
Sentiamo che c'è armonia in ciò che facciamo. Scorre da sé,
senza contraddizioni. È come un duo che canta insieme: ci completiamo a
vicenda. Ciò che mantiene l'equilibrio è non porre limiti al lavoro dell’altro.
È una forma d'arte incondizionata.
In che modo pensate che la collaborazione con l'altro
artista possa influenzare il vostro sviluppo artistico personale?
Ogni collaborazione è un'ispirazione. È lì che sta la magia.
Ci ispiriamo a vicenda e inconsciamente influenziamo lo sviluppo dell’altro.
Ci sono artisti o stili che hanno influenzato il vostro
lavoro, e come queste influenze si manifestano nel vostro lavoro di duo?
Siamo entrambi influenzati dall'arte contemporanea. Katerina
è principalmente una pittrice, mentre Christine è anche una fotografa. Nel
nostro lavoro si fondono influenze contemporanee di pittura e fotografia. Il
nostro stile è un amalgama di queste due forme d'arte
Come traete ispirazione l'uno dall'altro e cosa ritenete
unico nel vostro approccio all'arte?
Innanzitutto, ci piace l'arte dell'altro. Per collaborare è
necessario apprezzare il lavoro dell'altra parte. Il nostro stile individuale
ci ispira a vicenda. Ciò che riteniamo unico nel nostro approccio è la
consapevolezza che io non sono qui e tu sei là fuori.
Cosa pensate sia il più gratificante aspetto del collaborare
con un altro artista, e come ha cambiato il vostro approccio alla creazione
artistica?
È psicologicamente molto gratificante. Diamo vita a qualcosa
di nuovo, come avere un figlio. C'è un elemento di sorpresa quando vediamo il
risultato di un pezzo collaborativo. Ha cambiato il nostro approccio nel senso
di provare empatia per altre opere d’arte, indipendentemente dal tipo di arte.
Ci sono progetti o mostre specifiche a cui state lavorando
per il prossimo futuro? Cosa possiamo aspettarci dal vostro lavoro?
Sì, ci sono progetti artistici in arrivo. Stiamo già
collaborando con i film artistici di Tatiana Rivero Sanz. In questo contesto
stiamo espandendo la collaborazione anche con altri artisti: artisti visivi,
poeti, attori e musicisti si uniscono per creare una nuova forma d'arte. La
nostra ultima collaborazione con Tatiana Rivero Sanz e il Teatro Studion
Jankowki, un cortometraggio, ne è un ottimo esempio. Finora il nostro lavoro
collaborativo è stato esposto in mostre virtuali. Crediamo che in futuro sarà
esposto in gallerie d'arte dal vivo. Continueremo anche a incorporare il nostro
lavoro nella cinematografia artistica.
Let's talk to them directly to find out how their artistic partnership is influencing their artistic path...
Can you tell a little about your individual artistic
training? What inspired you to start creating art?
We have both received fine art training. Katerina in Greece,
Christine in the United Kingdom.
We both started creating art as it is an inner need. A
necessity like having to breathe.
How did you meet and what led you to decide to form a duo?
We met through the social media first.
Then in real life. It all started as a game. Playing around
with eachother's images. We had so much fun doing that, that at some point we
realized why not collaborate? Why is it that in so many other art forms people
collaborate like in music for instance? At that point we decided to form a duo.
How does your collaboration process come to life? Do you
work together in the same studio or remotely?
Remotely.
It is all done on the computer using our processing
programs.
What goals have you set for the new artistic duo you have
formed and how do you imagine your styles will evolve together?
Our goal is to inspire other artists to collaborate. It is
all a matter of learning to drop the ego in order to work in unison.
We hope to see other artistic collaborations being done.
It's like creating a new art movement as it used to be done in the past, at the
beginning of the 20th century.
As for our styles, we do not think about it. We like to
surprise ourselves.
How do you balance your individual creative voices with the
need to work together as a team?
We feel that there is a harmony in what we do. It flows by
itself. There is no contradiction. It's like a duo singing together. We
complement eachother. What keeps the balance is not to put boundaries on
eachother's work. It's an unconditional form of art.
How do you think collaboration with the other artist can
influence your personal artistic development?
Every collaboration is an inspiration. That's where the
magic lies. We inspire eachother, and unconsciously we influence eachother's
development.
Are there any artists or styles that have influenced your
work, and how do these influences manifest themselves in your work as a duo?
We are both influenced by contemporary art. Katerina is
mainly a painter. Christine is also a photographer. Contemporary influences in
both painting and photography merge in our work. Our style is an amagalmation
of painting and photography.
How do you draw inspiration from each other and what do you
find unique about your approach to art?
We in the first place like eachother's art. In order to
collaborate one needs to like the other party's work. Our individual style is
what inspires one another.
What we think is unique in our approach is the realization
that I am not here and you are out there.
What do you think is the most rewarding aspect of
collaborating with another artist, and how has it changed your approach to
artistic creation?
It is psychologically very rewarding. We both give birth to
something new. Like having a child. There is an element of surprise when we see
the outcome of a collaborative piece.
It has changed our approach in the sense of feeling empathy
for other works of art, no matter what type of art that might be.
Are there any specific projects or exhibitions you are
working on in the near future? What can we expect from your work?
Yes, there are artistic projects on the way. We are already
collaborating with Tatiana Rivero Sanz's artistic films. Within that frame we
are expanding collaboration with other artists too. There are other visual
artists, poets, actors, musicians all coming together to create a new artform.
Our last collaboration with Tatiana Rivero Sanz and the Teatro Studion Jankowki
which is a short film, is a very good example of that.
Up until now our collaborative work, has been exhibited in
virtual exhibitions. We believe that in the future our work will be exhibited
in an art gallery in vivo. We will also continue incorporating our work in
artistic cinematography.
CHRISTINE LENZER
Sono specializzata nella realizzazione di immagini digitali e fotografia freelance, styling e trucco professionale per film, TV e teatro. Sono anche insegnante di Kundalini Yoga certificata KRI.
Sono nato ad Atene in Grecia.
Ho studiato psicologia all'American College Deree di Atene, e successivamente sono andata a Londra, nel Regno Unito, dove ho studiato trucco professionale per il teatro, la TV e il cinema presso la Greasepaint School of Professional make-up Art, (Ealing Broadway – Londra).
Ho studiato Belle Arti al Croydon College of Arts, Londra, Regno Unito, comprese le basi della fotografia su pellicola in bianco e nero. Sono tornato in Grecia per rilevare l'azienda di famiglia, Lentzos S.A., un'esclusiva azienda di moda maschile. Contemporaneamente lavoro come truccatore, stilista e fotografo freelance per spettacoli teatrali, gruppi musicali e attori.
La mia creazione di immagini è stata mostrata su riviste nel Regno Unito, Turchia, Santiago Cile, mostrata e premiata più volte da riviste online. Ho ricevuto una menzione speciale dall'IPA (International Photography Association) e sono arrivato secondo al concorso 50 sfumature di grigio. Ho esposto il mio lavoro alla Prima Biennale delle Arti di Santorini in Grecia, e nell'ottobre 2014 ho mostrato il mio lavoro a New Orleans con Raw: Natural Born Artists, e di nuovo con Raw, a Washington DC nel 2017.
Ho esposto il mio lavoro in collaborazione con la fotografa newyorkese Linda Troeller ad Apolda in Germania nel 2018.
Espongo regolarmente alla Blank Wall Gallery e ai festival fotografici ad Atene e Chania a Creta.
L'estate scorsa ho esposto a Venezia con Opificio Della Fotografia. Il mio lavoro ha realizzato anche la copertina del libro "PhotoMilano On Desire" nel 2023.
Attualmente espongo nuovamente con Opificio della Fotografia, presso Casa Museo Tadini.
Collaboro con Tatiana Rivero Sanz, dove illustro per film d'arte, da solo o in collaborazione con l'amica artista e collaboratrice d'arte Katerina Dramitinou.
Parlo correntemente inglese, francese, italiano e greco.
Nel 2011 mi sono trasferito da Atene negli Stati Uniti, dove vivo tuttora, creando immagini digitali.
CHRISTINE LENZER
I specialize in freelance digital image making and photography, styling and professional make-up for film, TV and stage. I am also a KRI certified Kundalini Yoga teacher.
I was born in Athens Greece.
I studied Psychology at the American College Deree in Athens, and subsequently went to London UK, where I studied professional make-up for stage, TV and Film at Greasepaint School of make-up art.
I specialize in freelance digital image making and photography, styling and professional make-up for film, TV and stage.

I studied Fine Arts at Croydon College of Arts, London UK, including the basics in B&W film photography. I returned to Greece
to take over the family business, Lentzos S.A., an exclusive fashion menswear company. I simultaneously free-lanced as a make-up artist, stylist and photographer for stage, musical groups and actors.
My image making was shown in magazines in the U.K., Turkey, Santiago Chile, shown and awarded several times by on-line magazines. I got special mention fron IPA (International Photography Association), and came second at the contest 50 shades of grey. I exhibited my work at the First Santorini Biennale of Arts in Greece, and in October 2014 showed my work in New Orleans with Raw: natural born artists, and again with Raw, in Washington DC in 2017.
I exhibited my collaborative work with New Yorker photographer Linda Troeller at Apolda Germany in 2018.
I exhibit regularly at Blank Wall Gallery and Photo festivals in Athens and Chania Crete.
Last Summer I exhibited in Venice with Opificio Della Fotografia. My work also made the cover for the book "PhotoMilano On Desire" in 2023.
I am currently exhibiting again with Opificio della Fotografia, at Casa Museo Tadini.
I am in collaboration with Tatiana Rivero Sanz, where I illustrate for art films, either alone or in collaboration with friend artist and collaborator in Art Katerina Dramitinou.
I am fluent in English, French, Italian and Greek.
In 2011 I moved from Athens to the US, where I am still living, creating digital images.

• 1987 – 1992: I took lessons by the painter and Professor of Art History
• Frixos Theodosakis.
• 1992 – 1998: I continued my studies at the painting workshop of Nikos
Stefos. I was taught by the painters Vassilis Dionysopoulos, Nikos
Christoforakis, Kyriakos Katzourakis, Marios Spiliopoulos and Giannis
Migadis.
