Oltre le Forme L’Universo Emotivo nell’Arte di Vian Borchert

L’opera d’arte non è semplicemente il risultato di un gesto artistico, ma piuttosto un accumulo di esperienze, viaggi, memorie e riflessioni che si intrecciano nella trama della mente dell’artista. In essa, si possono scorgere tracce di trionfi e di dolori, di gioie e di struggimenti, che conferiscono profondità e complessità alla sua espressione creativa.

Ciò che rende davvero singolare questa produzione artistica è la sua capacità di trasmettere un senso di intimità universale. Pur essendo fortemente radicata nell’esperienza personale dell’artista, l’opera si apre a interpretazioni e connessioni che vanno oltre il singolo individuo. È come se l’artista, attraverso il suo linguaggio visivo, aprisse una finestra su mondi interiori, invitando lo spettatore a immergersi nelle profondità dell’esperienza condivisa.

Artist Vian Borchert’s work stands out for its ability to
transpose the intimacy of her experience into an abstract and poetic visual
form. Through a very personal creative process, the artist captures the
incessant flow of thoughts and emotions, creating a work of art that acts as a

The work of art is not simply the result of an artistic

Ciao, mi chiamo Vian Borchert, sono un’ affermata artista espressionista. Descrivo la mia arte come una forma di poesia
visiva e nella mia arte miro a suscitare sentimenti di pace e ringiovanimento
attraverso la visione dell’opera. 

Creo arte professionalmente da circa 20 anni.
Sono cresciuta in una famiglia d’arte dove tutti, da parte di mia madre, sono
artisti. Quindi, sono nata con un dono naturale e un talento artistico che
attribuisco alla mia creazione genetica. 

Il mio talento era abbastanza chiaro
per tutti intorno a me e i miei insegnanti e presidi scolastici hanno sfruttato
il mio talento. 

Ho presentato la mia scuola attraverso mostre d’arte e ho vinto
numerosi premi durante la mia infanzia e infine una borsa di studio per
l’università d’arte. 

Sono un “Notevole Alumni” del Corcoran College of
Art & Design George Washington University, Washington, DC. 

Da oltre un
decennio insegno anche corsi di belle arti per adulti in pittura e disegno. 

Ho
scritto numerosi articoli sull’arte e ho curato mostre collettive e con giuria. 

Ho anche lavorato come critico d’arte presso “Art Basel Miami Beach”
e ho lavorato come convocatore di comunità.

Attualmente sono il responsabile
artistico/curatore dell'”Oxford Public Philosophy Journal” – una
rivista di filosofia con sede all’Università di Oxford, nel Regno Unito. 

Inoltre, Sono il curatore della galleria virtuale VB Contemporary che presenta
mostre d’arte attentamente curate che mettono in mostra opere di artisti
affermati e di talento provenienti da tutto il mondo.

Come è nata la tua passione per l’arte?

L’ho sempre avuto dentro di me fin da
quando ero bambina. L’arte è sempre stata lì per me fin dall’inizio. Per quanto posso ricordare, da bambina ho
sempre iniziato a disegnare, colorare e dipingere con affetto. Per me l’arte
era un rifugio, una sorta di santuario dagli occhi indiscreti del mondo
esterno. Ero una bambina molto timida e l’arte mi ha aiutata a esplorare la mia
identità creativa e la mia personalità. Facendo arte fin da bambina,
sono entrata nel mio mondo di immagini, immaginazione e paesaggi onirici.
L’arte mi ha reso felice. Tuttavia, provengo da una famiglia d’arte e sono
cresciuta vedendo mia madre dipingere mentre ascoltavo musica classica. Vederla
in piedi accanto al cavalletto con un pennello in mano mentre dipingeva le
sinfonie di Beethoven era qualcosa che ammiravo totalmente. I miei genitori,
amanti dell’arte e della cultura oltre ad essere collezionisti d’arte, ci hanno
portato anche a inaugurazioni e conferenze d’arte. Quindi, sono cresciuta non
solo vedendo l’arte, ma anche ascoltando conversazioni intellettuali sull’arte e sul
suo significato. Il gergo artistico, per così dire, era nell’aria.

 

 

Hai seguito un percorso accademico o sei
autodidatta?

Vengo dal mondo accademico e ne sono molto
orgogliosa. Sono un “Notevole Alumni” del Corcoran College of Art
& Design George Washington University, Washington, DC. Oltre a studiare
belle arti, ho studi di storia dell’arte, psicologia e sociologia insieme a un
certificato in arteterapia e un web master.

Come educatore d’arte, sono chiaramente a favore
della strada dell’apprendimento e dell’educazione e incoraggio tutti a seguire quel percorso. Vedo numerosi
artisti autodidatti e personalmente ritengo che la loro esperienza di
apprendimento sia meglio aiutata se seguono e lavorano per un percorso
accademico.

 

Quali sono le tue fonti di ispirazione?

La natura è la mia più grande fonte di ispirazione. Il
mio giardino è il mio santuario e rifugio nei momenti di angoscia. Mi ritiro lì per
ascoltare gli uccelli cantare con gioia mentre assaporo la leggera brezza che
attraversa le sue foglie mentre i profumi delle mie piante di lavanda e
rosmarino riempiono l’aria. Anche i miei figli e mio marito sono per me
un’enorme fonte di ispirazione per andare avanti e creare sempre più lavori: mi
incoraggiano continuamente nel mio viaggio da artista attraverso il loro amore
e la loro ammirazione per le mie creazioni artistiche. Inoltre, la luce e le
ombre svolgono un ruolo importante nell’essere fonti di ispirazione per il
mio lavoro.

 

 

Come descriveresti il tuo stile?

Il mio stile è espressionista astratto con un
tocco minimale. Adoro il colore blu poiché sono una persona acquatica e amo
tutto ciò che è nautico. Sono nota per i miei dipinti astratti blu che incarnano
paesaggi marini e paesaggi del cielo attraverso una visione moderna e un modo
pittorico.

 

 

Come si manifesta e si riflette nella tua
arte la tua passione per la scrittura poetica?

Come l’atto di creare arte, anche
scrivere poesie è sempre stato presente. Da bambina non solo disegnavo, ma scrivevo
storie accompagnate dai disegni. La poesia per me, soprattutto quando ero
adolescente, era una forma di diario, parole e strofe scritte in modo più astratto e
suggestivo. Per me la poesia è simile a un’opera d’arte astratta, indicativa, misteriosa eppure
fatta di parole che si intrecciano per formare un insieme che rappresenta
un’idea o un concetto. In tal modo, la parola scritta passa attraverso me
artista e si manifesta sotto forma d’arte attraverso la pittura.

 

Cosa ti motiva a preferire uno stile
artistico astratto rispetto a stili più tradizionali o figurativi nella tua pittura?

Creo arte da molto tempo. Come artista da
molti anni, ho studiato arte nel modo tradizionale alla scuola d’arte. Insegno
anche ai miei studenti principianti con un approccio più tradizionale affinché possano
crescere passo dopo passo nella scala dell’apprendimento artistico. Inoltre,
sono principalmente un artista figurativo. La maggior parte dei miei lavori
precedenti sono figurativi ma espressi in uno stile astratto. Quindi, l’astrazione
per me è sempre stata presente fin dall’inizio. Tuttavia, negli ultimi 8
anni, il cerchio è tornato al punto di partenza ed è stato completamente mostrato nel
lavoro. Tuttavia, nella sua essenza è il mio vero amore per l’astrazione che ha aperto la strada al mio
stile distintivo.

 

 

In che modo la scelta dei colori tenui
influenza il significato o l’emozione che vuoi trasmettere attraverso le tue
opere?

Il colore per me è sempre stato un canale e un
riflesso di stati d’animo e sentimenti. Per illustrare, i dipinti dei miei
campi di lavanda presentano calmi toni lavanda e magenta insieme a soffici
nuvole bianche per rappresentare i calmi sentimenti di pace e amore che ottengo
mentre mi trovo nei campi di lavanda. Al contrario, negli ultimi dipinti di
tuoni e fulmini, ero ben consapevole del compito da svolgere e del concetto che
doveva essere espresso – quindi, l’opera d’arte presentava i colori del blu e
del viola in una gamma dinamica per enfatizzare la drammaticità e la forza
di fenomeni naturali ed eventi atmosferici che l’ambiente ed il clima incontrano.
Invece, gli ultimi toni tenui della mia recente serie “Cherry Blossom and
Sakura” sono intenzionalmente realizzati con una tavolozza più morbida per
far emergere le sensazioni eteree della primavera con tutta la sua incantevole
bellezza e l’atmosfera onirica.

 

 

Hai un metodo o una tecnica specifica che
preferisci utilizzare per creare effetti visivi interessanti?

Utilizzo una serie di pennelli di varie
dimensioni. In un certo senso, sono un vero pittore, amo i miei pennelli e il
loro meraviglioso utilizzo e ciò che in cambio possono fare per creare un’atmosfera pittorica. Mi
piace pensare di essere un direttore d’orchestra e che i miei pennelli siano la
mia bacchetta che dirige una sinfonia orchestrale. Allo stesso modo, come un
musicista con la sua bacchetta magica: per me, i miei pennelli mi danno la
stessa sensazione. In generale, però, un pittore esperto sa come lavorare con i pennelli.

 

 

Come è cambiato nel tempo il tuo
approccio all’arte astratta?

I miei primi abstract non erano
rappresentativi e la trama era pesante e avvolgeva una tavolozza più scura. I
lavori precedenti, sebbene fossero molto astratti, erano ancora vagamente
basati sui miei viaggi alle Cascate del Niagara e su una visione astratta della
formazione rocciosa più come uno scienziato nel ruolo di un artista che dipinge
allontanando la loro osservazione. Le ultime astrazioni si basano ancora
sull’osservazione della natura, ma si può dire che il dipinto è un
paesaggio di fiori di ciliegio, tuttavia intenzionalmente espresso attraverso
un tocco espressionista astratto. Anche i dipinti recenti presentano una
tavolozza più chiara. C’è stata una migrazione del colore dall’oscurità alla luce
che potrebbe essere un’indicazione della mia trasformazione e crescita nel
corso degli ultimi anni verso la ricerca dell’illuminazione attraverso le arti.

 

 

Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri e le tue
ambizioni nel campo della pittura?

Ultimamente ho curato una serie di mostre
collettive presentate nella mia ultima impresa “VB Contemporary”, che
è una
galleria d’arte virtuale 3D e una piattaforma culturale che scopre e mette in
mostra artisti che trovo affascinanti da tutto il mondo. Le mostre sono curate
con cura con un numero selezionato di artisti in cui trovo che la loro visione
sia in linea con la mia estetica di ciò che costituisce l’arte contemporanea e in cui sento che il loro
lavoro gioca un ruolo nel plasmare la scena artistica attuale. L’attuale gruppo è “In Spring”.

Questo progetto ha
comportato un duro lavoro e molta energia e impegno sono stati messi dietro le
quinte da tutto il team per rendere le mostre e la loro presentazione
un’esperienza bella e divertente per spettatori e artisti allo stesso modo. 

Oltre a questo sforzo curatoriale e di regia, il mio obiettivo è che la mia
arte venga mostrata maggiormente nei musei di livello mondiale e nelle
principali gallerie nelle città chiave, da New York a Parigi, a Londra, Dubai e Roma e oltre. 

Voglio anche tornare a scrivere libri per bambini accompagnati dalle mie
illustrazioni, che è il mio primo amore nel campo dell’arte: ho diversi libri che ho
scritto che si accumulano in attesa di essere pubblicati.

anni, fate attenzione a loro. 

Hello, my name is Vian Borchert, I am an
established expressionist artist. I describe my art as a form of visual poetry
and in my art I aim to bring forth feelings of peace and rejuvenation through
viewing the work. I’ve been creating art professionally for around 20 years. I
grew up in an art household where everyone from my mother’s side is an artist.
Hence, I was born with a natural gift and an artist’s talent which I attribute
to my genetic making. My talent was pretty clear for all around me and my
school teachers and principals harnessed my talent. I presented my school
through art exhibits and won multiple awards throughout my childhood and eventually
a scholarship for art college. I am a “Notable Alumni” from the
Corcoran College of Art & Design George Washington University, Washington,
DC. I’ve also been teaching fine art classes to adults for over a decade in
painting and in drawing. I’ve written numerous articles on art and curated and
juried group exhibitions. I also served as an art critic in “Art Basel
Miami Beach ” and worked as a community convener. I am currently the art
lead/curator for the “Oxford Public Philosophy Journal” – a philosophy
journal based in Oxford University, UK. Moreover, I am the curator of VB
Contemporary virtual gallery which presents carefully curated art exhibitions
showcasing works by accomplished and talented artists from all over the world.

How did your passion for art come about?

I’ve always had it in me ever since I was a
child. Art was always there for me from the start. As far as I can remember, I
always fondly took to drawing, coloring and painting as a child. For me art was
a retreat, a sanctuary of some sort from the prying eyes of the outside world.
I was a very shy child and art helped me explore my creative identity and my
personality. In making art even as a child, I entered my own world of images,
imagination and dreamscapes. Art made me happy. However, I do come from an art
household, and I grew up seeing my mother painting while listening to classical
music. Seeing her standing by the easel with a brush in her hand painting to
Beethoven’s symphonies was something I totally looked up to. My parents who are
art and culture lovers along being art collectors also took us to art openings
and art lectures. Hence, I grew up not only seeing art, but also hearing
intellectual conversations about art and its meaning. The art lingo so to speak
was so much in the air.

Did you follow an academic path or are
you self-taught?

I come from academia, and I am very proud
of that. I am a “Notable Alumni” from the Corcoran College of Art
& Design George Washington University, Washington, DC. Besides studying
fine art, I have studies in art history, psychology and sociology along with a
certificate in art therapy and a web masters degree.

As an art educator, I clearly favor the
road of learning and education and encourage all to follow within that path. I
see numerous self-taught artists and I personally feel that their learning
experience is better aided if they follow and work towards an academic path.

What are your sources of inspiration?

Nature is my biggest source of inspiration.
My garden is my sanctuary and refuge in times of distress. I retreat to it to
listen to the birds sing joyfully while taking in the gentle breeze that goes
through its leaves while the scents of my lavender and rosemary plants fill in
the air. My children and husband also are a huge source of inspiration for me
to carry on and go on creating more work – they continuously cheer me on in my
artist’s journey through their love and admiration of my art creations. Also,
light and shadows do play a huge part in being sources of inspiration for my
work.

How would you describe your style?

My style is an abstract expressionist one
with a minimal twist. I love the color blue since I am a water person and love
everything nautical. I am known for my blue signature abstract paintings that
embody seascapes and skyscapes via a modern take and a painterly way.

How does your passion for writing poetry
manifest and reflect in your art?

Same like the act of creating art, writing
poetry was always there as well. As a child not only would I draw, but I would
write stories accompanied with the drawings. Poetry for me especially when I
was a teenager was a form of a diary, words and stanzas written in a more
abstract suggestive way. For me poetry is similar to abstract artwork,
indicative, mysterious yet made up of words that string along to make a whole
that represents an idea or a concept. In such, the written word comes through
me the artist and manifests in the form of art via painting.

What motivates you to prefer an abstract
artistic style over more traditional or figurative styles in your painting?

I have been creating art for a long time.
As an artist for many years, I have studied art in the traditional way back in
art school. I also teach my beginning students in a more traditional approach
for them to grow step by step within the ladder of art learning. Moreover, I am
primarily a figurative artist. Most of my earlier work is figurative yet
delivered in an abstract style. Hence, the abstraction for me was always there
from the beginning. However, in the last 8 years, it has come full circle and
has been fully shown in the work. Yet, in its essence it is my true love for
abstraction that led the way to my distinctive style.

How does the choice of soft colors
influence the meaning or emotion you want to convey through your works?

Color for me was always a conduit and a
reflection of mood and sentiments. To illustrate, my lavender fields’ paintings
present a calm lavender and magenta tones along with white fluffy clouds to
represent the calm feelings of peace and love I attain while being in lavender
fields. In contrast, the latest paintings of thunder and lightning, I was well
aware of the task at hand and concept that needs to be delivered – hence, the
artwork presented colors of blues and purples in a dynamic array to emphasize
on the drama and strength of natural phenomena and atmospheric occurrences that
the environment and climate encounter. Whereas, the latest soft tones in my
recent “Cherry Blossom and Sakura” series are intentionally done with
a softer palette to bring forth the ethereal feelings of Spring time with all
its enchanting beauty and dreamlike ambiance.

Do you have a specific method or
technique that you prefer to use to create interesting visual effects?

I do use an array of brushes from varying
sizes. In a sense, I am a true painter, I love my brushes and their wonderful
usage and what they in return can do in creating a painterly feel. I like to
think I am a conductor and my brushes are my baton conducting an orchestral
symphony. Likewise, similar to a musician with their magic wand – For me, my
brushes give me the same feel. In general though, a skilled painter knows how
to work their brushes.

How has your approach to abstract art
changed over time?

My earlier abstracts were
non-representational and texture heavy enveloping a darker palette. The earlier
works albeit them being very abstract, they were still loosely based on my
travels to the Niagara Falls as well as an abstract take of rock formation more
as a scientist in the role of an artist painting away their observation. The
latest abstractions are still based on observations on nature but one can tell
that the painting is a landscape of cherry blossoms yet  intentionally delivered through an abstract
expressionist touch. The recent paintings do also present a lighter palette as
well. There has been a migration in color from dark to light which could be an
indication of my own transformation and growth throughout the latest years
towards the pursuit of enlightenment through the arts.

What are your future projects and
ambitions in the field of painting?

As of late, I’ve been curating a number of group exhibitions presented in
my latest endeavor “VB Contemporary” which is a 3D virtual art gallery
& a cultural platform that discovers and showcases artists I find
fascinating from all around the world. The shows are carefully curated ones
with a hand selected number of artists where I find that their vision aligns
with my aesthetics of what constitutes contemporary art and where I feel their
work plays a role in shaping the current art scene. The current “In
Spring” group exhibition is viewable at: www.vb-contemporary.com – This
project has been a lot of hard work and lots of energy and effort is put behind
the scene by the whole team to make the exhibits and their presentation a
beautiful and enjoyable experience to viewers and artists alike. Besides this
curatorial and directorial endeavor. I aim for my art to be shown more in
world-class museums and in major galleries in key cities from NYC to Paris to
London, Dubai and Rome and beyond. I also want to eventually go back to writing
children’s books accompanied by my own illustrations which is my first love in
the field of art – I have a number of books that I have written that are piling
up awaiting to be published. So, in the coming years, look out for them.
